Paul Burrows is a professional photographer of 30 years’ experience and a camera enthusiast who understands the value of good quality leather. Formerly at the Manchester Evening News as a press photographer and now running his own business shooting PR, marketing and a variety of events, Paul has worked with Hotter on a number of occasions.

In his spare time Paul refurbishes old Olympus Trip 35 film cameras and was searching for the perfect luxury leather to finish the cameras with.

Paul says:

‘There’s a resurgence of interest in film photography and the Trip 35 is one of the first point and shoot cameras in production from 1967 to 1984. Young people like the look of them and are trying film for the first time so this camera is dead easy to use, but tricky to strip down and refurbish! It can take about 3/4 hours to totally strip, clean and recover them. They are just mechanical, no electronics or batteries needed.’

‘I strip them down in my spare time, get them working if broken, replace parts on them, and then remove the old black leatherette (it’s awful) and recover them in different coloured leather. The Hotter leather is amazing quality, easy to cut and is perfect on the cameras. I can turn it around and use the back as a suede finish. It gives the camera a luxury feel and a modern look. The green and brown leathers are particularly popular with Italian customers who snap them up.

Trip Facts: The Trip name was a reference to its intended market – people who wanted a compact, functional camera for holidays. During the 1970’s it was the subject of an advertising campaign that featured popular British photographer David Bailey. Over ten million units were sold all over the world.
