We asked Nurses Sarah, Daly, Margaret and Hilary how important comfortable and supportive shoes are in their work. Overall, quite simply, the answer was: very.
“Sometimes you can be on your feet for hours so it is vital that the shoes are comfortable,” says Hilary.
“Supportive shoes make all our lives easier as we are never off our feet. Supportive shoes help our spine and shoulders,” says Margaret.
“I spend a lot of time up and about in my job as a research nurse,” says Sarah. From seeing patients day-to-day to talking with staff and meeting healthcare professionals outside of the hospice, “good shoes are essential to all of this so I don’t have to worry about sore feet!”
Daly, a Registered Nurse of 9 years, told us that feeling comfortable enables her to do her job without any discomfort or stress and feel relaxed.

Sarah wore Nightingale.

Margaret Forysyth
Liverpool Hospice, 2 years
“I see so much love every day in the hospice,” says Margaret, Health Care Assistant at Liverpool Hospice.
On a 12.5-hour shift, “comfort is the most important thing. We need comfortable footwear to walk up and down the wards.”
Margaret wore Barton.
Hilary Usta
HCA Manchester, 16 months
Hilary loves her job because she knows her patients’ families can rest for a few hours. She says “I’m reassured that their loved ones are being well cared for."
Of the Nightingale shoes she says: “My feet do not ache at all at the end of the shift.”
Hilary wore Nightingale.

Whether you’re on your feet all day or need supportive, comfortable work shoes, you deserve the ultimate comfort.
As Margaret said:
Feet are the most important thing in life. They take you to good places.
And, Margaret, we couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

For each pair of work shoes for nurses we sold between 6th September and 4th October 2021, we paid £5 to Marie Curie – and that’s for every colour of Nightingale, Barton or Exton.
