British manufacturing takes a step in the right direction
British shoemaker, Hotter Shoes is flying the flag for British manufacturing following an increase in demand for comfortable women's and comfortable men's shoes.

The North West shoemaker currently sells a pair of comfy shoes every 25 seconds, and by the end of the year it is forecasting to sell a pair every 20 seconds, having upped the output of its stylish comfort footwear to 1.5 million pairs per year and bucking high street trends.

Responsible for making one in every three pairs of shoes in Britain, Hotter has created 200 jobs in the last 18 months by opening 20 stores across the UK; and it plans to reveal more store openings later this month.

Based in Lancashire, Hotter has also been chosen to represent the national 'Made By Britain' collection by local MP, Rosie Cooper. Rosie described Hotter as "an excellent representative of manufacturing" and a company that displays "thoughtfully designed products which are manufactured to a high quality standard".

Hotter has been making comfortable shoes in Britain for more than 50 years and credits its success to the premium quality and passionate design of its products.

Managing Director of Hotter, Peter Taylor said: "We are an innovative brand, we listen to our customers and continually develop our diverse product range to meet their needs. We deliver a premium product and a quality service in a multi channel environment whether our customers shop with us online at, in one of our 25 Hotter stores, 20 of which we opened last year, or by mail order via our onsite100 seater UK call centre.

"As the UK's biggest shoe manufacturer, we will make nearly 1.5 million pairs of women's shoes and men's shoes in our Skelmersdale factory in 2012. Many footwear brands have taken their manufacturing abroad, but we are proud to have retained our British heritage and the flexibility and control to manufacture world class products in a highly competitive market."

Hotter was set up in 1959 by the parents of the current CEO Stewart Houlgrave; the company originally made slippers and now make women's shoes and men's shoes that feel like slippers. During 2012, Hotter is manufacturing two limited edition 'Great British Shoes' to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and Olympic Games celebrations.
