(L-R) - Tommy Davies, Maintenance Engineer; Joan Stewart, Factory Manager; Steven Stewart Quality Co-Ordinator and Stewart Houlgrave, Hotter Founder with Chris Brown, Director, Marketing Liverpool.
The competition brought together the winners of Insider's regional Made in... Awards across nine separate categories and honoured the cream of the UK's manufacturing industry. Hotter won the top prize at the event in Liverpool's St Georges Hall, beating competition including Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover.

"The judges were pretty much unanimous in their decision to award Hotter the top award, it's such a great manufacturing story," commented, Insider's Regional Business Editor Philip Cunliffe, who chaired the Made in the UK Awards judging panel.

"Hotter is the UK's biggest shoe maker making 1.7 million pairs of shoes per annum; that's one pair every 20 seconds. This fact alone is hugely impressive but the judges also thought the mere fact that a UK shoe manufacturer is producing quality products to diverse markets, amid challenging retail conditions, speaks volumes for the company's outstanding contribution to UK manufacturing."

Delighted to have won such a prestigious accolade, Hotter Managing Director Peter Taylor commented: "We're thrilled that the hard work of all our staff has been recognised and I'd like to thank them all for their dedication and effort.

"To be named Manufacturer of the Year really underlines our heritage and expertise, we started making slippers in 1959 and now we design and make shoes that are as comfortable as slippers."

Earlier this year the company celebrated winning a Queen's Award for Enterprise and he added: "The Queen's Award for International Trade brought our business right up to date showing both our uniqueness and how far we have progressed; we are the UK's biggest shoe maker with over 75 UK stores and we have a call centre right next to our factory, which serves multiple time zones across our key markets."
