What Makes Happy Feet

What makes happy feet?
Did you know that we walk an average of 115,000 miles in our lifetime? What is perhaps more interesting is that 70% of foot problems are caused by badly fitting shoes.

We spend half our life wearing a pair of shoes, which is why they must be designed and made properly – and why they must also fit well and be comfortable.
We are shoe experts; shoe experts who love feet – as simple as that! We want you to love your feet too, which is why we’ve put together this simple guide to looking after your feet. We believe if we can help your feet to feel good and look good too, then you’ll be able to make the most of your Hotter shoes.
So what really does make happy feet? Having made footwear now for over fifty years we’ve had lots of opportunity to discuss this with customers, members of the public and a range of health care professionals and have come to the conclusion that different things make different feet happy. For people with heel pain, shoes with underfoot cushioning can provide some relief; for those who lack sensation in their toes due to diabetes it is vital to have smooth internal seams and to help prevent corns and callus you must make sure there’s plenty of space around and on top of your toes. If you need to wear orthotics then shoes with removable insoles may be helpful.
There are lots of secret ingredients we conceal in every pair of Hotter shoes to make them the most comfortable you have ever tried. Features such as removable insoles, extra roomy toe boxes, soft padding at heels and tongues, lightweight, shock absorbing soles and smooth internal seams all combining to take you to comfort heaven!
With over 300 foot conditions it can be tricky to find the right fitting shoe for you, so we’ve covered the main conditions below to point you in the right direction. (Don’t forget though you should always consult a podiatrist for foot health advice.)
We think that creating happy feet should put a smile on your face too, so we’ve also had a look at some fun ways to keep your feet feeling great and looking great too! We hope you enjoy our happy feet pages and they help you fall in love with your feet as much as you fall in love with our shoes!

QUICK TIPS
Change hosiery once a day and select socks that contain at least 80% cotton or wool to allow the feet to breathe normally.
Remove and air the insoles from your shoes when you have taken them off to keep them fresh.

FUN FEET FACTS
Each foot has 26 bones, 33 joints, 20 muscles and 100 ligaments.
There are over 300 different foot conditions – and nearly 90% of people in the UK are affected at some point in their life.
Foot problems can be inherited, due to wear and tear, due to disease or from poor footwear choices.
Your feet can mirror your general health – your podiatrist may be able to detect the initial signs of conditions such as poor circulation and arthritis when they check your feet.

EXERCISE*
As you read this straighten your toes and wiggle them – this will help exercise and refresh your toes.
At the end of a busy day, sit with your feet up for ten minutes to help circulation.
To refresh your feet massage gently with a foot roller – or better still ask your partner to massage them for you.

*Always consult a doctor if you are considering a new excerise routine.
